acupuncture & Eastern medicine modalities

Every day, around the world, people receive Eastern medicine treatments for their diseases. They put their trust in 3,000-year-old healing techniques that still support them into wellbeing with amazing results. Read more about the Eastern services offered at Hado Health below.

ACUPUNCTURE

Hado Health practitioner and owner Minerva fell in love with acupuncture first as a patient. Only four acupuncture sessions relieved excruciating pain in her shoulders and prevented her from having invasive shoulder surgery. It was her personal experience that motivated her to study and practice acupuncture and Eastern medicine modalities. They are – to this day – essential offerings at Hado Health.

The beauty and power of Eastern medicine is that it treats people as whole persons. Minerva sits with each patient and discusses his/her energy, spirit, and body to explore the many ways the Japanese and Chinese healing modalities might help. At Hado Health, we always do our best to listen to each patient and then offer the most effective and long-lasting treatment.

Acupuncture has amazing track record with treating an astounding variety of conditions, including chronic and acute pain, allergies, sleep disorders, digestive disorders, internal medicine conditions, mental health issues including stress, anxiety, and depression, feminine health issues, and many more. Modern research has demonstrated acupuncture’s effects on the nervous system, endocrine and immune systems, cardiovascular system, and digestive system. By stimulating the body’s various systems, acupuncture can help to resolve pain, improve sleep and digestive function, and promote a sense of well-being.

But does it hurt? This is usually the only concern our patients have about acupuncture. We always assure patients that the needle insertions are very gentle and cause little to no discomfort. In most cases, all a patient feels is a light warming or tingling sensation, numbness or slight soreness, pressure, or simply, relief.

ELECTROACUPUNCTURE

Electroacupuncture is good for relieving muscle spasms, neurological disorders, stroke damage, acne, and acute nausea. Electroacupuncture activates the body’s endorphin system and lowers blood pressure. The procedure is painless; most patients only feel the mild sensation of a light electrical current. Gentle electric pulses can also regenerate damaged tissue and aid in facial rejuvenation.

CHINESE HERBS

Chinese Herbs are an essential component of most acupuncture treatment plans. Herbs work from within the body to return blood flow, digestion, metabolism, and hormone production to a natural balance. By restoring natural energy, immunity is strengthened and overall quality of life is improved.

Most Chinese Herbs, including astragalus, ginkgo, ginseng, green tea, and eleuthero (aka Siberian Ginseng) can be swallowed whole, eaten, or sipped like tea. Minerva Henson may draw upon hundreds of available Chinese herbs to create special formulas that address a patient’s specific needs.

MOXIBUSTION AND MOXA

Since ancient times, expertly controlled fire has been a great source of healing and relief. When Mugwart is burned close to the skin, cold is dispelled, the blood is strengthened, and blood flow is stimulated. Moxa brings warm, soothing, immediate relief to a variety of common ailments.

Conditions treated include:

  • Acute and chronic conditions

  • Musculoskeletal pain, headaches, tendonitis

  • Arthritis

  • Digestive disorders

  • Allergies

  • Gynecology: menstrual cramps, irregular menses, infertility

  • Stroke Recovery

  • Neuropathy (weakness, numbness, tingling, or pain in hands and feet) and poor circulation

GUA SHA

This ancient technique uses a ceramic spoon to apply pressurized strokes to the back and other parts of the body, depending on the condition. As the spoon moves forward across the skin, blood flows up to the skin’s surface in its wake. Patients may see a temporary red to dark purple stripe (petechiae) along the skin while immediately enjoying deeper breaths and a settled stomach.

The human body, even at rest, is a system constantly in motion. When electricity, blood, fluids, waste, or nutrients stop flowing the way they should, the body responds with discomfort. Many infections, respiratory problems, and digestive issues result from poor blood circulation. Luckily, Gua Sha can correct the flow of blood to the affected area.

Conditions treated include:

  • Acute and chronic pain, strains, sprains, muscle spasms

  • Muscle stiffness

  • Illness and upper respiratory issues: fever, chills, asthma, bronchitis, cough

  • Digestive issues: indigestion, constipation, nausea

  • Heatstroke

  • Fibromyalgia

CUPPING

Cupping is a more intense and invigorating version of Gua Sha (read more below). A heated glass vacuum cylinder is placed on the skin to stimulate blood flow. Cupping also helps remove adhesions on inner connective tissue and muscle layers. And yes, patients will likely see temporary bright red to dark purple circles and stripes underneath the skin that will last for a few days. During summer, Minerva opts for heart shape cups, so patients don’t feel the need to cover up!

Conditions treated include:

  • Blood and lymph stagnation

  • Respiratory diseases: cold, pneumonia, bronchitis

  • Back, neck and shoulder pain and other musculoskeletal conditions

  • Gynecological disorders

ACUPUNCTURE POINT INJECTION THERAPY

This therapy combines the benefits of Chinese Medicine with conventional Western and homeopathic medicine. As it sounds from the name, Acupoint Injection Therapy involves injecting natural therapeutic substances (which may contain homeopathic remedies such as Traumeel and vitamins like B-12) into acupuncture points specifically chosen for your wellness needs. This procedure takes regular acupuncture to the next level by using proven natural substances to stimulate deeper healing via acupuncture points.

Don’t let the word “injection” concern you. Like acupuncture, Acupoint Injection is a gentle therapy that works with the smallest and finest quality needles.

This therapy is highly effective with conditions such as:

  • Acute and chronic muscle, joint and nerve pain

  • Muscle spasms

  • Sports injuries

  • Injuries sustained in motor vehicle accidents

  • Alleviate arthritic pain

It’s also effective for patients seeking to:

  • Boost immune system

  • Supplement nutrients

  • Lose weight

  • Improve athletic performance

One of the substances we use - Traumeel - is a natural blend of botanical and mineral extracts with the potential ability to neutralize inflammation, allowing the body to heal properly. Traumeel injections are much safer than most pain-relieving medicine. Most importantly, these injections are natural, non-narcotic, non-NSAID, non-steroidal, and not addictive.

In addition, there aren’t noted complications when using Acupoint Injection Therapy alongside other drugs; this is where our therapy differs from and is superior to most pain medication. Acupoint Injection Therapy is a great treatment option for those taking other medicines or those who have struggled with dependency in the past.
